I was especially inspired by Ron Swanson today. Enjoy this wallpaper! It’s on my desktop. :)
One of my favorite, charming aspects of the Savannah townscape is the abundance of little shops selling everything from large antiques to novelty knick knacks lining every street. The stores are mostly family owned and the personality of the shop owner is reflected in the walls of each establishment. I’ve always been used to going to Savannah with a large group of friends or my huge family but the town is an entirely different experience when you arrive with just one other person and no schedule. I prefer the peaceful meandering, actually!

Beautiful old typewriter. I just love the circular keys.

They have so many old things they can just use some as doorstops!

I’ve told Jeremy he may pick up pipe smoking when he is 70. :)
I always love collections of old cameras. The Tri-Lens one in the middle really caught my eye.
We ate a surprising amount of asian food in Savannah.
Large jewelry was a recurring thing in Savannah. You go big in the south!
I find myself gravitating towards Yarn and bead stores lately. I do love making earrings out of beads but I think I may learn to knit soon, for making blankets and amigurumi.
Tiny little knitted sweaters! Each one wasn’t more than 4 inches in height!
We picked up some pretty yarn for a friend of ours. I loved the entire rainbow of color in the store.
Part of what makes Savannah charming is the little personal touches the shop owners put in their stores. There’s nothing chain about these places.
If that alpaca had been for sale it would have come home with me for sure.
I spent a little time this morning in historic Duluth. Jeremy and I met some long time tweeps, checked out an eight week oil painters class, and just enjoyed a quiet morning on a street that wouldn’t be so deserted on a Saturday afternoon if it weren’t for the rain. Planted up and down the street is ornamental kale. I never expected that healthy green to have a sexy side. I may have to plant some of the Brassica oleracea in my garden at home this season.
When I went to Savannah a few weeks ago (has it been a few weeks? wow.) I had a great time photographing a few birds. I’ve looked up birding stuff recently and even attended an Audubon society talk last night. And then I bought a bird themed photography display. Oh my god I’m the fledgling stages of becoming a birdophile… or to sound less like a crazy person, an amateur ornithologist. :)
Here are a few photos of seabirds I met on my trip to Savannah.
A few friends joined Jeremy and I in a geocaching adventure around town this weekend. Geocaching is a fun way to discover all the beautiful nooks and crannies of the place you live around while treasure hunting! This weekend we discovered a beautiful park, an amazing bridge, and a dirty ass corner of Atlanta all on foot. Part of the appeal for me is the miles of walking you wind up doing with your good buddies. If you haven’t walked a few miles with your friends lately, you’re missing out.
We at at Souper Jenny’s beforehand and I was totally the opposite of disappointed. :)
Enjoy!
I’m posting this from this past Tuesday because I don’t want to ruin the surprise for my friend Sana this weekend! I’m probably at the party now! We wanted to throw a great party for her 28th birthday this weekend and I am in charge of the decorations to go with the color theme of teal and red/coral. I found my way to the hobby lobby bottles section, the scrap booking section, the sewing section and finally the wedding aisle and came up with these on the fly yesterday. I also bought some flowers to mock-up how it’d look. There will be two whole centerpieces and some more clear glass with colored sixlets but I didn’t want to open those.
Do you know how much I love stickers? OMG I love stickers.
The left bit is a little off kilter because I was using a mounted painters canvas to stage. I discovered I literally have nothing white in the house that could be used for staging. Literally. I’ll probably change that these coming days since I love to practice. :-)
One of Savannah’s striking features is its historic squares. Each one houses at least one monument and plenty of history to go with it. They’re beautifully designed and are home to some beautiful flowering plants.

At night the squares take on an otherworldly appearance, and you begin to see their ghostly inhabitants out the corner of your eyes.

On a beautiful day, I could see myself hanging out with a book out here in these squares. It’s surprisingly quiet.

Jeremy has become my photography compadre over the last few months. He is now fully equipped with his own SLR and lenses!
I have nearly two hundred final photos from Savannah I want to share but I am going to try and break it down a little. We took a day off of work before heading out.

Molly tends to hang out on ledges and observe. It’s what we call “Gargoyling” at home. She’s looking at all our stuff ready for travel at the bottom of the stairs.

We started out towards Savannah on a beautiful Friday afternoon. And then, suddenly, a cannon appeared. It appeared to be civil war era so we guessed it was heading towards a reenactment site.
