I hope you’ll put up with a few more instagram posts while I get things in order.

The open sign on a late night at J & I’s favorite Chinese joint.
I haven’t had a chance to pull out my camera for anything other than people & events which I generally don’t post here. Fall is coming though, which means I’ll have a lot more opportunity to do some shooting. I’m going to start packing my camera on my way to boot camp so I can spend some time after the workout taking photos at the park. If I can get a 30 minute walk in after that’d be great. When life gets ridiculously busy, you have to get creative.
I hope things slow down soon.
But with all the random business, day job responsibilities, family & friends events, I have maybe an hour to myself everyday. Maybe. I usually spend that hour either wasting time on the couch or eating some junk from my kitchen / cleaning because everything looks like a sty.
I’m not griping. My life is awesome. So awesome I don’t even have time to do laundry I’m doing things I love ALL THE TIME. I’m truly blessed.
The rain on the way to pick up something very important… :)
I’ll go ahead and admit it. I am awful at running.
I will willingly do anything else during boot camp happily. Weight lifting? Yes. Crazy ab exercises? Yes. Cardio? Yes. When it comes to running I have neither the physical or mental stamina to do well. When my shins and ankles start to hurt I begin to lose focus and my speed just DIES.
The crusher for this assessment day was that I had improved over the last few months, quite regularly. My mile came down to 10:02 the last time I was assessed. This was a big accomplishment for someone who started at 16:30. I had improved about a minute per month. I couldn’t even run 300 feet, much less a mile, back in March. Well, the last time I was assessed, I was on a vegan diet and my energy and stamina were on a different level. Yesterday, it was assessment day again. I felt sick to my stomach, party because I had eaten a couple of fiber bars beforehand.
Fiber bar = tasty = epic gas.
Halfway through the run I got a bad cramp that felt like it encapsulated my entire liver. It sucked. My mile time was like 11:40. SUCKK.
And I’ll be completely honest. My diet has gone to the dogs the last couple weeks. I’m frequenting Steak and Shake way more than I should.
So last night when I was out with friends to buy housewarming gifts for another buddy of ours, we came across the Adidas store and their buy one get one sale. It’d been six months since my last exercise shoe buy and I needed something to cheer me up after the epic failure that was my mile run. Then I saw these babies.
Cue my new Adidas. They look awesome. They felt good on my feet, and I need some psychological support for next assessment day. My plan is to get back on that vegan diet for the 2 weeks before assessments so I’m in better shape. I’m not built for running but I don’t want to stop building myself for running.
Man I love these shoes. I’m going to rock my next assessment day.
On the way back from our weekend in the mountains, we stopped at Mercier Orchards and picked up some apples.
Here’s the view of their retaining pond from which they irrigate their trees.
I also spent a good bit of time using J’s iPhone to take photos. My Android phone has a crap camera and the software to edit it is slow. In fact today, yesterday and the day before‘s photos were all taken with the iPhone. It’s a spectacular device with access to some amazing apps developed by some talented devs. I wish Apple would release their next handset already. I’ve been waiting nearly a year now with an upgrade and the cash at hand.
I was browsing some new releases yesterday when I picked up on a very similar sound in one of them.
Remember when I posted about a group I’d come across like Penguin Cafe Orchestra a while back? Well apparently Leona Lewis and Avcii caught on to the addictive little stanza from the song Perpetuum Mobile which I had fallen in love with myself.
While sampling a different artist’s music and adding your own on top has a bad rep with music junkies, I actually enjoy having some of my favorite melodies reframed and overlaid to something different. I don’t think it’s unoriginal or “stealing” really. It’s almost like allowing klangfarbenmelodie in classical music. Almost. :)
Check out Perpetuum Mobile and then listen to Leona Lewis’ Collide. They’re both good songs.
