Landmark

One thing I noticed about Savannah is that the landmarks are really unique. The town has a very artsy streak and it shows! This is the horse in someone’s 4th floor window we used to locate the parking deck we used the entire weekend. Also, we totally LOVED that parking was $3 for the day. After paying $10-$20 for just an evening in Atlanta it was awesome. It almost felt like we were ripping off the parking company!

Doorknobs

Part of the charm of an old town is the bits of antique hardware still adorning doors and windows, gates and fences. I’ll be focusing on capturing some of the beautiful ironwork of centuries past while I’m here in Savannah.

Music

Lindsey Stirling

Lindsey Stirling

String heavy music has always pleased my ears. Chalk it up to the years I spent on the violin. I came across Lindsey Stirling while clicking through America’s Got Talent videos on YouTube. I watched her rise in popularity and he subsequent crash and burn in the finals. To be honest, I wasn’t sure how someone can traipse across a stage like a deer and still play notes properly on a violin. They can’t. Since then though, she’s built her music career and I’m loving her work. I had her self titled CD in my wishlist for a few months and since nobody took notice I just went ahead and bought it yesterday.

I’m upset at myself for waiting to buy it. The entire album isn’t very musically complicated but it’s a great listen and with the dubstep undertones (is that such a thing?) I’ve been jamming to it for hours. Quite a few of the songs are set to video on her YouTube channel so definitely check her out.

Joy Cafe

This weekend I spent some time with my best girlfriends and had a girls day out. We stopped at Joy Cafe, a small buckhead eatery where we enjoyed some good american fare and a quaint setting. The butterfly display inspired me and I am having some dried butterflies shipped to me for a home art project. :) If you’re in the neighborhood, be sure to eat at Joy Cafe!

Uzma and Shubin

I never thought I’d find myself photographing Uzma, who was only a couple months ago capturing my wedding! It was a totally fun day and honestly one of my more fun shoots. Here are my favorites from the shoot. :)

Warm Bodies

Warm Bodies Film Poster

Warm Bodies Film Poster

It’d been a while since Jeremy and I made it out to a theater and the reason we went at all last night was because my studio movie grill groupons were expiring. Great reason, I know.

We chose to watch Warm Bodies, a film my friend Rachael has been raving about for a while. I hadn’t even thought about it until earlier in the day when I was going to give Rachael some groupons and realized they were set to expire that night!

What a serendipitous series of events that led us to watch this somewhat silly but completely lovable movie on opening night!

No spoilers! Just a general overview ahead!

The plot follows a zombie teenager as he winds up dealing with the fact that he is in fact not simply a mindless eating machine. He must deal with having emotions and introspection which eventually leads him to connect with the living and change the fate of the undead.

At first I could only think “weird” when I thought about zombie romance (and this is coming from a seasoned Left 4 Dead 2 player) but the way it evolved throughout the story made it more than palatable.  I won’t ruin it more for you! Go check out the movie!! :)

A Little Chaidventure

Sleeping Cats

While Jeremy and I embark on a chai adventure, these suckers decide sleeping is more interesting.

chai ingredients

We raided our pantry. All the components for homemade chai are before you!

mortar and pestle

Jeremy fell in love with this mortar and pestle a few weeks ago while shopping. This is the first use we got out of it!

Jeremy didn't measure anything but he did put fairly even amounts in. :)

smashed chai ingredients

It looks lovely already.

falling chai

Look at those glorious bits of chai falling into a filter. We went a little modern with the brewing part.

keurig with hot water

This little keurig has been a super handy hot water heater. :)

Here we go, the hot water is being poured!

chai making jeremy

Here’s my wonderful kitchen scientist! Since this post was written he’s made me chai a few more times!

Half n Half in Chai

A little half and half goes a long way with chai! I’m used to having milk or cream in my chai.

chai finished product

The chai is complete! The larger cup is mine and jeremy decided to keep his dairy-free. It’s great both ways.

Northern Mockingbird in Georgia

Northern Mockingbird

Several months ago, while it was still fall, long before my newfound interest in bird identification had been ignited, I took this photo. It’s lovelier knowing a bit about who the little fella is.

Northern Mockingbird in Georgia

A medium-sized songbird, a bit more slender than a thrush and with a longer tail. Mockingbirds have small heads, a long, thin bill with a hint of a downward curve, and long legs. Their wings are short, rounded, and broad, making the tail seem particularly long in flight.

I’m moving away from heavy vintage filters. It was cute for a while.. but truthfully, I want to capture rich, AUTHENTIC, tones. It might take a bit since my eye’s become trained to accept this type of filtering but my images.. I want them to be timeless. So, as I increase my framing, composition and positioning skills, I will be working on my color as well.

At times I may post photos that are ‘art prints’ which may have heavy effects applied but those will be specifically set aside as art photography. :) Happy shooting!
