Miami Days and Nights

Exploring Miami for its different architecture was a mini adventure for my camera.

Coral Castle

Traveling to Miami gave us the option to stop and discover the Coral Castle, a mainstay of my childhood when my dad loved watching conspiracy theory tv. The theories vary from the builder knowing the secrets of the Egyptians to aliens being involved — maybe the builder was an alien himself! But really he was just an immigrant with a broken heart, and a lot of time and commitment. He built this entire castle out of the local coral and has left this mystical and romantic place for visitors today.

Miami at Night

We reached Miami later in the evening and after checking into our hotel in the Art Deco district, went for a walk along Ocean Drive.

We had a good rest and spent the last two days exploring the design district and enjoying some daylight art deco views.

We finished out our time by going to the Wolfsonian and looking through Art Deco history! What stayed with me most is that during the time of uncertainty this art era was at its peak, all the human element in these displays reflected how most of us are feeling today. I felt both hope that we overcome, but also great sadness knowing what was to come in the futures of the people in this era … and strangely felt a future grief for us humans today. We will have to hurt each other and burn down priceless parts of our world before we get the populations of self-centered, empathy barren, power hungry humans diminished to small amounts again and society can continue to progress.

We had just such a nice break from the loads of work. We hadn’t been anywhere for almost six months so it was so good to get that break.
